Established in 1924, the Kinsmen is a Canadian Non-profit Service Organization that encourages the high principles of Service, Fellowship, Positive Values, and National Pride. The organization is comprised of Local Clubs, District Clubs and a National Foundation.
The Association has been around for 90 years and it’s dedicated to nurturing life-long friendships while serving communities. The Kinsmen Club of Calgary was one of the first clubs in the Kinsmen association and it is a very active local club. A year after its inception, the members became involved with the Calgary Stampede by running the food concessions.
The Kinsmens’ largest fundraising event is the Kinsmen Wheels Lottery at the Calgary Stampede. The fundraising efforts of the Kinsmen Club of Calgary raises money for the most needed projects to help the community. In addition to lending financial support, the Kinsmen also volunteer their time to help out community projects directly. For example, here is a list of organizations and fundraisers they have continued to support: Camp Horizon; Calgary Zoo; Canadian Cystic Fibrosis; Alberta Children’s Hospital; Calgary Learning Centre; Camp Enviros; Hull Child and Family Services; Wheels Lottery; Mile of Dimes; Box of Life; Great Strides; The Drop Zone; Spring into Summer – Dance – BBQ and Blues.
Fellowship is the foundation and the binding force that has brought Calgary communities years of service by the Kinsmen. The bond formed between Kinsmen while working in casinos, selling raffle tickets, BBQs, fellowship nights, golf outings, family events, and many more formal and informal events.
The Alberta Children’s Hospital is lucky to have such a great group of people helping them raise funds for worthwhile causes. Assisting the Alberta Children’s Hospital and their needs is a venture that is much appreciated by families who take their children there for treatments. Alberta is lucky to have the Kinsmen, a long-standing organization that can be counted on for financial assistance as well as volunteer support. Thank you for making the world a better place Kinsmen.
